Collection #1: Ruana/Gilet Update

I've made swatches of possible stitches that I'll use for this particular piece. The yarn used is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. I used a 5mm hook and worked a side edging in single crochet (slip stitch in UK). The edging on the right has button holes worked into it.

In the picture below, the 1st swatch was worked in half double crochet (half treble crochet in UK) clusters. The drape is good but it's a little 'gappy' for what I want.

The second swatch was worked in crossed half double crochet (half treble crochet in UK). The drape is good and it's not gappy, however it does go gappy when working the side edging.

The third swatch is worked in trinity stitch. I liked the look of the stitch however its a closed stitch so doesn't drape very well. I may try this again using a larger hook.

At this moment in time I'm thinking of using the crossed half double crochet stitch, if so I'll use a smaller hook when working the edging.

As mentioned in my earlier post I'm working on my first set of garments. The first item I'm making is a ruana/gilet. I'm making it from Sublime boucle yarn that I bought from the Knitting and Stitching show in September. This particular piece won't be part of my collection as the yarn has now been discontinued and it's difficult to work with so isn't suitable for intricate patterns. I will however make a similar one as part of my collection, but most likely using a chunky merino wool.

So far I've worked through almost two balls of yarn, considering the fact that I've only spent the equivalent of three days actually working on it, I think that's very good. If I can get my head down and focus on it i.e. If the boys give me some space I should be done in a week or two. Let's hope.

A Few Things

There are a few things that I've been meaning to post about for some time. Now that I've finally got round to getting online I thought might as well say everythig in one go

Firstly I'm considering appying for a credit card so that I can sell on Etsy. I've come to this decision for a number of reasons, one being the fact that MISI is going to be sold. I've also had problems trying to upload the listing for a pdf pattern. I've contacted admin twice about this and I still haven't got a response.

The second thing I wanted to mention was that I'm now working on garments. The main aim will be for them to be pdf patterns, but I may sell the garments if I don't keep them for myself.

Lastly I wanted to wish everyone an awesome Christmas.
